Itinerary

When you arrive at the airport, there will be someone waiting for you to transfer you to your first destination in this exciting trip to Mexico, the charming Chiapa de Corzo town.

The day will begin with a tour of the enchanted Chiapa de Corzo to see its most famous attractions such as its beautiful and particular neighborhood chapels, ruins of colonial temples, and the Marimba Museum where we will visit the workshops and appreciate the process of making this beautiful instrument from the wood in its natural state. We will also enjoy its exquisite local cuisine that is characterized by its very peculiar flavors that have their origin in pre-Hispanic times and that will delight your palate.

Then we will go to the jetty where we will take a boat for an exciting ride along the Grijalva River where we will be able to appreciate the exuberant nature of the place and some of the animal species that inhabit this unique ecosystem such as crocodiles, white and gray herons or spider monkeys. With cliffs up to 1,000 meters high, the Sumidero Canyon is simply a spectacular visit.

You will continue today to another charming place, a waterfall called “El Chiflon” which means strong wind. Visiting this natural area is very pleasant, with lush countryside and relatively flat trails, you can enjoy its well-kept picnic areas and observe the impressive 100-meter waterfall. Although if you are looking for stronger emotions, this natural paradise offers different and exciting levels of hiking from where you can appreciate the most impressive landscapes and the thunderous sound of the falling waters. You can also choose to relax or swim in the refreshing blue rivers. After this enchanted visit, you will be driven to your accommodation in the area.

Today we will visit another natural paradise that lives up to its name, Montebello: beautiful mountain, with its 59 dazzling lakes bordered by dense and coniferous forests. The Montebello Lagoons National Park is an idyllic place to explore with its seemingly endless network of hiking trails. Celebrated for their striking multi-colored hues, the Emerald Lagoons, The Enchanted Lake, Ensueño, Blue Forest, and the Tinted Lake are certainly breathtaking sights.

In this surprising natural wonderland that is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting natural places in Chiapas, you can enjoy its magnificent landscapes and wildlife. Its fabulous trails framed in dense pine forests and dotted with orchids and bromeliads, pleasant canoe or horseback rides, and swimming or even diving in the idyllic waters of its lakes, certainly make the perfect day visit. Afterward, you will be conducted to your hotel.

After breakfast, you will be driven to the New Ranch Ecotourism Park where we will visit its impressive cave system that is located within a beautiful coniferous forest. Discovered in 1947, these impressive caves are 10.2 kilometers long and up to 550 meters deep and possess a beautiful proliferation of stalactites and stalagmites.

We will also visit the beautiful El Arcotete Ecotourism Park, framed by abundant vegetation and its varied and numerous fauna. This place owes its beauty to the passage of time since its now impressive caverns were discovered in its formation. With walls up to 40 meters high and whimsical geological formations that resemble gigantic bones, these walls are a paradise for those who like rock climbing. Discover the melancholic legend of love and courage told by the inhabitants and caretakers of the place, about what hides its imposing 50-meter-high arch of limestone rock that rises over a river, a dreamlike landform. After visiting these two charming natural enclaves, you will be driven to your hotel in San Cristobal de las Casas.

In the morning we start with a tour of the Enchanted and colorful San Cristobal de Las Casas, one of the most beautiful and original colonial cities in Mexico. Recognized as one of the Magical Towns in Chiapas, it is also one of the most romantic in the world. We will visit its most beautiful architectural treasures dating from the 16th century and which have been awesomely preserved over the centuries. Its beautiful traditional architecture, its crafts, and gastronomy make visiting its neighborhoods a fascinating and unforgettable experience.

Then we will make another lovely visit, this time to the reserved indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan. During this visit, you will be able to experience the daily customs of its citizens and have a glimpse of the ancestral traditions of these Mexican peoples. We will visit its most important and historical temples, you will appreciate the beauty and simplicity of its altars and ornamentation, and the particular clothing that its images wear, according to the indigenous traditions of the town.

In addition, you will also know first-hand the traditional work of the women who weave with a loom at the waist and we will also have the opportunity to taste the typical liquor made by the locals visiting the home of a local family.

We will visit today the exuberant wildlife refuge where the waterfall called Agua Azul is located. It owes its name to its beautiful turquoise waters that form a series of beautiful waterfalls that create natural pools. Surrounded by a subtropical forest and impressive biodiversity, this waterfall has a hot climate for most of the year, which is why a dip in the waters and dams of the river is extremely pleasant.

Afterward, we will go to visit Misol-Ha. This waterfall is a worthy representative of Chiapas ecotourism. In the middle of this high tropical jungle, you will enjoy a fabulous experience in intimate contact with nature. Its beautiful fall of 30 meters high forms a large pool making this place a refreshing and astonishing destination. After this refreshing day full of crystalline waters and nature, we will go to Palenque, where you will be driven to your accommodation.

This day we will visit one of the three largest cities in the Mayan World, the impressive Palenque. A specialized local guide will take you through its history to explore its ancient and imposing temples surrounded by lush vegetation. Even today in its archeological zone there are around 1,600 buildings that are still covered by the jungle, which makes this impressive destination even more fascinating. You can also visit the museum where you can see the replica of the largest sarcophagus in the world. After this unmissable visit, you will be driven back to your hotel.

To end this adventure through enchanting Chiapas, you will be transferred to the Palenque international airport for your flight back home. Nevertheless, if you want to add more days to your trip through Mexico, please contact us and we will be happy to help you plan an extension.

Calakmul

An antique Mayan city secluded in the jungle, it is not simple to get to this site, which is the reason why it is not in the itinerary of most tourists. Many parts have never been excavated, and because it only receives about a dozen travelers per day, it feels like a true “Indiana Jones” kind of adventure. Among the many fascinating structures found there are two colossal pyramids. The ruins are located in the enormous Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, 2,792 square miles of preserved jungle. Duration: 3 days.
