Itinerary
A driver will welcome you at the International airport of San Jose to take you to your hotel.
Your driver will pick you up at the hotel to begin your travels via the Pan American Highway towards Alajuela. During this ride, see the Agriculture Monument, the popular Mango Park, and stop for the Doka Coffee Tour. Afterward, you’ll continue the trip through colorful landscapes, where there will be fern, flower, and strawberry farms.
When you enter the cloud forest of Poas Volcano National Park, notice the changes in temperature and vegetation because it is cooler. Once at the volcano, explore the impressive crater with its eruptions. Then, hike to Botos Lagoon and learn about the different ecosystems in Costa Rica. Finally, have time to enjoy a delicious meal, while surrounded by the beautiful La Paz Waterfall Gardens. At the end of the tour, your driver will take you back to your hotel in San Jose.
A guide will pick you up at the hotel, early in the morning, to take you to the Roots office in the town of Tortuguero where you will be picked up by the hotel staff.
Today you will have a boat tour in the National Park of Tortuguero. In this park, you can discover a great variety of rain forests, swamps, lagoons, and beaches. These beaches are the homes of several kinds of sea turtles. At the rivers of the park, one can even see manatees, caimans, crocodiles, and the Tropical Car, known as a living fossil.
Jaguars, three-toed sloths, and monkeys live in the forest, like many other animals. At the national park, around 375 species of birds live together with kingfishers, peacocks, and parrots. Nature is also truly amazing. There are More than 400 species of trees and 2200 species of plants.
Today your day begins with a boat transfer and a shuttle to La Fortuna, and the Volcano Arenal area. Arenal Volcano woke up 400 years ago and has been active constantly since.
Today you will have a Safari Floating tour in Peñas Blancas. The Peñas Blancas is a slow-flowing river, so you will have the perfect opportunity to watch the wildlife of Costa Rica. Today you will be transferred to Monteverde. The transfer includes a lake crossing, where you will have stunning views of Lake Arenal. To get the full experience, go on an adventure by walking over the suspension bridges and seeing the forest from above by canopy. Other options to experience the forest are by going on a Sky Walk, Sky Trek, or the Natural Wonder Tram.
Today you will have a tour in Monteverde including the hanging bridges and zipline. Later on, at night you will have a night walk. Monteverde is known as one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the tropics. The Children’s Eternal rainforest is the first children’s rainforest in the world. The Monteverde Butterfly Garden is the best place to see the colorful butterflies. Similarly, the Hummingbird Gallery is a must if you want to see colorful birds.
The longest cables for zip lining in Costa Rica are located in the jungle canopy. The tour consists of 15 cables and 18 platforms. Cables provide an amazing perspective. Another way to explore the forest is by going on a Tree Top walkway. This walkway consists of 8 great suspension bridges connected by trails. The track is around 1.9 miles (3km). The bridges vary from 150 ft (50m) to 500 ft (170m) and the heights differ from 36ft (12m) to 180ft (60m). The bridges are for people of all ages.
