Lamanai Ruins

Boat Expedition

River in the Rainforest

This unmissable day tour will take you through a scenic boat ride to visit this Maya ceremonial site, nestled in tracks of virgin jungle and savanna. Certainly, the most mysterious Maya site in Belize. Some temples still remain buried underground.

Lamanai name means “submerged crocodile”.  So, see history in the making as you visit the excavation site. The temple complex sits stop a bluff overlooking the New River Lagoon, and the marshlands around the lagoon support many species of water birds and wildlife. As a result, a great destination for bird watchers. Climb the tallest temple to get the one of a kind view from its summit.

What to expect

Firstly, your driver will take you from Belize City to Orange Walk. Secondly, the adventure starts with a 25 mile serene boat ride up the New River.  Surely, the river excursion is a perfect opportunity for spotting some of the rarest and most unusual bird sightings Belize has to offer.

Along the way, through New River wildlife, you will gaze at ‘the walking on water bird’, crocodiles floating near the edge of the river, turtles, camouflaged bats, and howler monkeys. During your stop at the Mayan site of Lamanai, together with a guide explore one of Belize’s oldest Mayan sites and the only one that bears its original name. Visit the amazing mask temple, where you will get to view the largest carved mask found in the entire Mayan world of an Olmec male. After this unforgettable Lamanai ruins tour, you will be making your way back by boat, and then your private transfer will take you back to Belize City.
