Private Honduras Itineraries: Copan to the Bay Islands

The carved Maya pyramids of Copan sit near the Guatemalan border. We plan your custom trip from these archaeological plazas to the cloud forests of Pico Bonito National Park. On the coast, Jeannette Kawas National Park protects mangrove lagoons, while Roatan island features the living coral walls of the Caribbean.

Honduras’ Lakes, Waterfalls, and Barrier Reef

Lake Yojoa sits between two national parks, serving as a freshwater habitat for hundreds of bird species. Our drivers take you past the 43-meter drop of the Pulhapanzak waterfalls. Offshore, we organize snorkeling tours to explore the living corals of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef surrounding the Bay Islands.

Journeys Guided by Honduran Experts

We build itineraries across Honduras’ Caribbean and mountains. Guides lead your walk through the cobblestone streets of Copan town, stopping at artisan workshops. Off the northern coast, PADI dive instructors help you spot sea turtles and parrotfish while snorkeling the protected marine reserves of the Bay Islands.

Honduras’ Towns with Charms and Reefs

Copan holds the national Pueblos con Encanto (Towns with Charm) designation for its preserved architecture. We arrange visits through this valley to see free-flying scarlet macaws at the Macaw Mountain rescue center and the cattle fields of the El Cisne farm. Off the northern coast, island charters travel past Utila to see whale sharks and underwater shipwrecks.

Honduras’ Maya Ruins and Coral Reefs

THE COPAN RUINS

The Copan archaeological site features the Hieroglyphic Staircase, displaying the longest known Maya text directly beside the carved stela monuments in the central plaza.

CLOUD FORESTS

The Cangrejal River cuts through the cloud forest of Pico Bonito National Park. Toucans and white-faced monkeys live among the upper branches of the forest canopy.

GARIFUNA CULTURE

The coastal town of Tela is home to Garifuna communities. Villagers play traditional drum music and prepare seafood soups using coconut milk right along Cocalito Beach.

MARINE LIFE

The Bay Islands sit directly on the southern edge of the barrier reef. Snorkelers spot sea turtles and whale sharks swimming through the clear coastal waters.
