We are a Canadian senior couple. We took the "Best Maya Ruins" Tour with add-on day to Belize. We are independent world travellers until this first ever private tour. Excellent from start to finish - Elias (super) in head office … More arranging all the components of the daily activities, driver, 4 different guides -who not only enjoyed their jobs but were proud of their countries. Itinerary included day trip border crossings from Guatemala into Belize and Honduras with transfers to respective national guides. We visited in mid-November during the seasonal transition from wet to day but did experience some high water river flooding. Some adjustments had to be made to the itinerary. All was handled seamlessly by Elias in head office, resulting in us being able to visit Caracol Maya Ruins in Belize - marvelous road trip, outstanding site. We highly recommend MayanGateway.
For those who may hesitate visiting Central America. --- don't! Come and experience welcoming people, beautiful country, tropical jungle/wildlife in the north, complicated history told through our hosts' experiences.

Realizing my dream to see Copan, Tikal, and Palenque
Mayan Gateway made it possible for me to see these Classic Mayan Ruins in Honduras, Guatemala, and Chiapas, Mexico. They provided guides to take us safely to our destinations. They also … More gave us great ideas where to visit. We would not have seen Antigua and visit a coffee plantation. Nor would we have gone to breath-taking Lake Atitlan and help cook a Guatemalan feast. They found us incredible lodging with delightful breakfasts every morning.
Josue and Elias were extremely helpful answering our many questions and concerns promptly and thoroughly. Our trip went very smoothly. They were in touch the entire time and always made sure we knew what was next and what to expect.
Our guides were amazing. All of them were friendly and knowledgeable. We never felt rushed during our tours of the ruins, or anywhere else.
Our guide in Honduras, Yobani, is also an expert birder. He pointed out many birds that we had never seen before!

Review of a wonderful 3 week trip through Guatemala and Belize
To start, the preparation of our trip by our local travel agent together with MayanGateway was personal and tailored to our needs. A few days prior to our trip, a WhatsApp … More group was created by them as a communication tool throughout the trip. At the right times guides and drivers were added to the group, information was shared and questions answered. Everyone in the organization spoke English fluently. Elias and Josue (to our understanding the owners) managed everything perfectly and were very responsive. In all of our travels, we have never had an agency so committed!
During the trip 3 guides/drivers joined us. Eli Ramirez was our guide and driver for the first 8 days in the Guatemala Highlands. He was just perfect: so much to tell, passionate and involved, arranged everything for us so we didn’t have to worry about a thing, took us to local restaurants to taste local (but safe) food, joined us on local markets to let us taste all different kinds of fruits, etc… Eli showed us the ins and outs of the Guatemalan culture, history and kitchen. A big asset to our trip and a great recommendation for whoever travels in the highlands. The same can be said of Ricky Castellano, but then for the El Mirador jungle trek in the lowlands. Initially he was to be our Spanish-English translator but ended up being our guide for the whole 5 day trip. We couldn’t have been happier! Wonderful guide, full of passion, very knowledgeable on our trek through the jungle, and always answered all our questions. We had lots of laughs, learned a lot, and lost our hearts to him.
MayanGateway has created a perfect travel program for us. A mix of adventure and relaxation, culture and nature, history and present day, activity and leisure, visiting local areas and crossing the country, … On our 18 days we were submerged in nature, culture and history of Guatemala. The intense days were followed with relaxing hotels in the perfect sequence. All of the accommodations were carefully chosen to stay out of mass-tourism and we loved them all.

I asked Mayan Gateway to arrange a trip to Costa Rica to celebrate my wife and daughters' joint birthdays. From start to finish they were charming, knowledgeable, helpful and were excellent communicators, providing detailed calendar … More entries for all events and transfers, and a whatsapp group with the local services on the ground - it never took more than about 10 minutes to get a response. Really excellent. We felt very valued and well looked after.
In terms of the choices they recommended for our 12 day trip: all were superb choices (Tortuguero, Arenal and Manuel Antonio) and I doubt it would be possible to improve on the hotels and tours they proposed given our budget constraints. The only slightly duff tour we had was one we arranged ourselves, and even that was pretty good!
Even when disaster struck (a slightly scary breakdown during one of our transfers) we were safely back en route within 25 minutes.
I cannot recommend Mayan Gateway enough. Thank you guys! -
My cousin and I have been wanting to tour Mayan ruins for some time now and decided we'd go ahead and make that our 1st post pandemic vacation. I found Mayan Gateway searching online and it had good reviews so we decided to reach … More out. From our 1st contact to the last transfer to the airport to catch our flight home, we could not have been happier with Mayan Gateway. Josue set up our trip for us and patiently answered our million questions and was able to set everything up quickly once we decided to confirm. All of the hotel/lodging accommodations were wonderful. All of the guides and drivers were wonderful and accommodating and the guides had interesting information to share about both the Mayans and the current population in Guatemala and Belize. My cousin is 75 years old and the guides and drivers were so helpful with her luggage (and mine!) and helped her climb the ruins safely. During our vacation, a WhatsApp group was set up for us and Elias insured we had the needed information for each step of the way and checked in all along. This also gave us a reliable way to contact our guides/drivers and Mayan Gateway if needed. All arrangements were smooth and as expected. There were no surprises and no major change of plans - something I have never experienced before on a vacation. Our guide for most of our trip in Guatemala, Eli, really stood out in both the knowledge he shared and accommodating our lunch breaks and many bathroom breaks. He was was a pleasure to spend time with. In Belize, Elio took us to Caracol and we had so much fun. He really made the day enjoyable! Guatemala and Belize were wonderful countries to visit and I highly recommend for their varied landscapes, ancient histories, warm and welcoming people and great food! If I get lucky enough to go back, I will definitely be reaching out to Mayan Gateway again to plan the trip.
